IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A RELIABLE 2-DOOR SALOON CAR WITH A SPORTING HERITAGE

THEN THE ROOTES GROUP SUNBEAM RAPIER COULD BE JUST FOR YOU

Launched in 1955 and immediately achieving a Class Win in the Mille Miglia the Rapier went on to gain unequalled acclaim over the next 7 years. The new monocoque constructed car first used a body similar to the Hillman Californian. Overdrive on 3rd and 4th gave it an effective 6-speed gearbox. By 1957 the much more familiar “finned” version was in the showrooms and making even greater headlines on the International rally scene

Twin carbs and plenty of sporty dials on a flash dashboard as well as a convertible version to choose from.

By 1959 the dashboard was burr walnut and front disc brakes were added. The “Works” cars were still a huge force to be reckoned with in major rallies on all continents.

You always get the open-sided pillarless body style with a Rapier, boy was it cool!

In 1967 the ultra-stylish fastback version was released, the Ford Capri still some way behind.

But if you really wanted some oomph, the H120 version saw off the Mk 2 Ford Cortina Lotus in most contemporary road tests.
